The Best Orthopedic Bed for a Toy Poodle or a 2 kg Dog Is Not an Orthopedic Bed

A 2 kg dog supplies an eighth to a sixth of the force the foam trade's own test needs to dent a support foam. Her bed is chosen by its edge, not its depth — the arithmetic, the knee data, and what to buy.

Do not buy a toy poodle the bed you would buy a Labrador, scaled down. A 2 kg dog weighs 4.4 pounds, and the foam industry's own firmness test needs about 28 to 34 pounds on a 50-square-inch foot to press a medium support foam a quarter of the way down. She supplies between an eighth and a sixth of that, depending on the foam. The seven-inch "orthopedic" depth that is medicine for a 70-pound dog is, for her, upholstery. What her joints are actually at risk from is her knees — dogs under 10 kg carried 2.8 times the odds of a luxating patella in the unadjusted analysis of the largest primary-care study there is — and knees are loaded by jumping down and climbing up, not by lying still. So buy her bed for its edge, not its middle: a low or open front, warmth, a washable cover, and if you want foam at all, memory foam, the one class soft enough for her to dent. The honest first purchase is a folded blanket and a way up to the couch that is not a jump.

What "orthopedic" means when the dog weighs four pounds#

The word has no legal definition on a dog bed, but the physical idea behind it is simple and real: a foam that gives way under the dog's weight spreads the load, so the bony points that would otherwise press on a floor — the shoulder joint, the point of the hip — press on foam instead. That mechanism has been measured in dogs. When pressure was mapped under three cadaver dogs of differing body condition lying on their sides on four supports over four hours, the same three sites carried the highest pressure every time — the scapulohumeral joint, the greater trochanter and the thirteenth rib — and memory foam reduced those pressures compared with a standard mattress or blankets on the floor.[1] The thinnest dog produced the highest readings.[1]

Notice what that mechanism requires. The foam has to deform. A foam that does not move under the dog is a floor with a cover on it.

Whether a foam moves is not a mystery; the industry measures it, and the number is on every foam supplier's price list even though it is on no dog bed. The test is called indentation force deflection, or IFD (older documents say ILD). A 50-square-inch circular foot — eight inches across — is pressed into a slab of foam until the slab is 25% thinner, and the force it took is the IFD, in pounds.[2] The Polyurethane Foam Association's page states the 25% part of that definition without specifying the indenter, and adds the point most bed marketing gets wrong: firmness is independent of density, so a "high-density" foam is not necessarily a firm one and a dense foam is not necessarily a supportive one.[3]

Read the two right-hand columns against each other. A 70-pound dog's whole bodyweight exceeds the 25% test force on every support foam in the chart except the firmest rebond: rebond runs 40 to 140, and he exceeds the 40 grade but not the 140 one — which is why depth is a live question for him at all, and why what the base layer is made of decides the answer. Do not read that as proof he compresses the foam a quarter of the way down: he spreads his weight over far more than the test's 50 square inches, so his pressure is lower than the test's even where his total force is higher, and bottoming out is a different phenomenon from the 25% mark in any case. A 2 kg dog does not reach a fifth of it on any support foam in the chart. Her whole body, on the whole slab, produces less than the test foot produces on one eight-inch circle. The only rows where she registers at all are memory foam, at roughly a third of the test load. Even that looks generous once you read what owners of the bed we card below report: a relayed customer review describes a 13-pound dog — three times the weight of a toy poodle — who "wasn't heavy enough to really make a comfortable groove in the material and just sat on top of a rock hard surface."[7] That is one anonymous review at second hand, not a measurement, and we weight it accordingly — but it points the same way the arithmetic does, and it points away from the bed, not toward it.

Three cautions on that arithmetic, so you can weight it properly. It treats foam as roughly linear at small loads, which is a fair first approximation and not a measurement, and it compares a whole dog's bodyweight against a force measured on a 50-square-inch disc, so it bounds the answer rather than predicting a deflection. That bound is what the argument needs: a dog who cannot reach the test force spread over eight inches certainly cannot reach it spread over her whole body. Nobody has put a pressure mat under a toy breed on a foam bed and published it, so the toy dog's contact pressure is inferred, not measured. And the third cuts against our own recommendation, so read it carefully: IFD is a static test, and memory foam is viscoelastic — it creeps under a sustained load, which is the entire reason it is sold. A dog who settles and lies still sinks further than the instantaneous number predicts. That effect works in favour of the one foam class we tell you to buy, and it means our ratio understates how much memory foam a small dog gets to use. It does not rescue the support layer, which is where the depth and the price are. The inference is not a subtle one, though. Scale a dog down and her weight falls with the cube of her size while her contact area falls with the square, so the pressure under a lying dog falls roughly in proportion to her length. The bony points the cadaver study found are still bony points on a toy dog. They are pressing with a small fraction of the force.

For a Labrador, foam depth is the medicine. For a toy poodle, it is upholstery. Once that is clear, the bed decision reorganises itself around the things a 2 kg dog does get from a bed — and around the joint she is actually likely to hurt.

Where a toy breed's orthopedic risk actually lives#

The largest study of patellar luxation in ordinary practice covered 210,824 dogs attending 119 primary-care clinics in England over five years. Overall prevalence was 1.30%. Compared with crossbreds, the Pomeranian carried 6.5 times the odds, the Chihuahua 5.9, the Yorkshire Terrier 5.5, the French Bulldog 5.4 and the Pug 3.7. In the unadjusted analysis, dogs under 10 kg had 2.8 times the odds of dogs in the 10 to 19.9 kg band; absolute bodyweight was not carried into the final model, so treat that figure as descriptive rather than adjusted. Dogs lighter than their own breed's average weight had 1.4 times the odds of dogs at or above it. The median age at diagnosis was 4.0 years, with the middle half of cases between 1.7 and 7.5 years.[5]

Two things in that paper matter for the bed decision, and one thing it does not say matters just as much.

First, this is a disease of small dogs, and of the smallest dogs within a breed. Second, it is a disease of the young and middle-aged, not of old age: the median case is four years old, and the paper found the lowest odds of a first diagnosis in dogs twelve and over.[5] A toy dog who has started hesitating before the couch, or skipping a step on one hind leg, is not describing arthritis of age. She is more likely describing a kneecap.

What the paper does not say: the Toy Poodle does not appear in its breed table. We do not know whether that is because the breed is at ordinary risk in that population or because too few were seen to reach significance, and the paper does not tell us, so we will not guess. Set beside it a sentence from the breed's own standard, which asks that a Toy Poodle stand "10 inches or under at the highest point of the shoulders" and adds that "diminutiveness shall be the deciding factor when all other points are equal."[6] We are not claiming the standard causes the knee. We are pointing out that the epidemiology finds risk rising as dogs get lighter than their breed's mean, and the standard rewards the same direction. Patellar luxation is a mechanical problem in the groove the kneecap rides in, and the movements that stress it are the ones that drive the knee through its range under load: the jump down from the sofa, the scramble up, the hop over a wall. Lying on a bed is not one of them. The bed's relevance to her knee is entirely at its edge — how high the wall is, how many times a night she climbs it, and whether it sits below the couch she launches from. That is the reframe this whole article turns on, and it is the same one this site applies to the dachshund's spine: the injury is in the transition, not the rest.

So what should a 2 kg dog's bed actually do?#

Four things, in this order.

A low or open edge. If she has, or might have, a luxating patella, the bed should not be a thing she climbs. An open-front bed, a flat mat, or a bolster she can step onto rather than over. The bed we card below is a six-inch ring around a two-inch slab, which is a four-inch climb from the surface she is standing on. Two of the four beds in the table below are full rings, one is a three-sided bolster with an open front, and one is a flat slab with a headrest on a single end; for a dog ten inches at the shoulder a six-inch ring is a climb every time she changes her mind, and she changes her mind several times a night.

Warmth. A small body loses heat faster than a large one for the same reason it presses on the floor more gently: surface falls more slowly than volume as the animal gets smaller. A toy dog on a cold floor is cold sooner than a Labrador. The fix costs nothing — a folded fleece — and it is why the elevated mesh cot that suits a hot Labrador in July is the wrong answer for her in any month; our elevated bed article explains why the airflow underneath that helps in summer strips heat in winter, and a small body loses it faster.

A washable cover over a liner. We have no data on how often small seniors have accidents on their beds, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The mechanical point stands without a frequency: foam absorbs urine, does not wash, and cannot be dried, so a bed whose foam is sealed behind a liner and whose cover comes off survives an accident that destroys a bed without one. Check for the liner, not for the word waterproof.

A soft top layer, if you want foam at all. Memory foam is the only foam class on the chart she meaningfully dents. It does not need to be thick, because she is not going to bottom it out; a two-inch slab is plenty. What she does not need is the polyurethane support layer that makes a large-dog bed "orthopedic," because on her that layer is inert.

Which gives you the free answer first. A folded fleece blanket on the cushion she already sleeps on does most of what a $150 orthopedic bed would do for her, because the part of the $150 bed that costs $150 — the depth, the density, the warranted support foam — is the part she cannot use. The purchase that changes her joints is not a bed. It is whatever removes the jump from the couch, because the couch is where the knee gets loaded — a ramp or steps, and which one depends on her knee, as the next section sets out.

The beds sold to small dogs, read from their own listings#

We pulled four beds that come up for toy and small dogs and read what each actually prints. All Amazon figures via the Amazon Creators API and all maker pages read on 3 September 2026.

Three things to take from that table.

Before the three, one reconciliation, because the JOYELF prints two numbers that appear to disagree. Its foam slab is 25.5 by 17.5 inches while its stated sleeping area is 20 by 13. The slab is the full floor of the bed and the bolsters sit on top of its outer edges, so the smaller figure is the surface actually left for the dog. Take the 20 by 13 as the real one when you are deciding whether she fits.

Nobody prints the number that would settle it. Not one of the four publishes a foam density or an indentation-force figure, which is the same finding this site made across the large-dog roundup, where only Bully Beds prints a density. In the small-dog aisle the omission matters less than it does for a Labrador, because whatever the number is, she is not going to reach it. It still tells you that "orthopedic" on a small-dog listing is a word, not a spec.

The edge is where the beds differ, and it is the axis nobody markets. The EHEYCIGA is the only bolster bed of the four with an open front, and it is also the cheapest and the least documented. If your dog has a bad knee, that open front is worth more than anything the other three print, and it is worth reading the listing yourself with that in mind. Read the ring beds like for like and the gap is one to one and a half inches, not three: both boxes are six inches tall, and the JOYELF's ring stands roughly four inches above its two-inch slab against Casper's three — or two and a half, if you take Casper's own 3.5-inch depth rather than the 3 inches its Amazon bullet prints, which is exactly the discrepancy we flag below. Casper is the lower climb of the two, but you are paying three times the price for an inch or so of it, and Casper cannot tell you which figure is right. Neither is a low bed. Two beds in the table remove the climb rather than trimming it, and they sit at opposite ends of the price list: the open-front EHEYCIGA at $29.99, and the Barker Junior, which is a flat four-inch slab with a headrest on one end and no wall on the other three. We are not going to rank those two against each other, because the EHEYCIGA publishes no foam thickness anywhere on its listing, so the height of the step up onto it cannot be computed at all. We have carded neither: the EHEYCIGA because of that missing figure and because its buy box is held by a third-party seller rather than the brand; the Barker Junior because it is $149.95 for a 33-by-21-inch bed built for a dog up to 50 pounds, which is a great deal of bed for a 2 kg dog. If the edge is your binding constraint and the price is not, the Barker Junior is the honest answer in this table, and it is not the one we sell.

The premium beds are sized for a dog she is not. The Barker Junior Small is 33 by 21 inches of four-inch foam for a bed "engineered for dogs up to 50 pounds," and its page states no lower bound at all.[11] The company's flagship Large is rated 50 to 70 pounds.[12] A 2 kg dog is less than a tenth of the Junior's ceiling. Whatever foam sits inside a bed rated to 50 pounds, it will behave for her exactly as the chart above says: it will not move. Casper's depth figures disagree with each other on the Small the same way they did on the Medium, where we documented a two-inch Amazon bullet against a 3.5-inch maker page. That is a bookkeeping problem, not a safety one, but on a $139 bed it is the kind of thing you would expect to be settled.

The honest $40 memory foam bed for a small dog: a real 2-inch slab, printed dimensions, a liner and a washable cover. Buy it for a small or toy dog who nests, who steps easily, and whose owner wants foam rather than fibre-fill. Do not buy it expecting orthopedic pressure relief for a dog under ten pounds — she cannot compress it much, and reviewers with light dogs say so. Do not buy it for a toy breed with a bad knee: the full-circle bolster is a six-inch wall she climbs twice a night, and for that dog the edge of the bed matters more than the middle. No density, no warranty, no certification — you are buying a cheap bed with an unusually honest spec line, not a guaranteed one.

  • A real foam slab, and the listing prints its dimensions: "Memory foam base 25.5'' x 17.5'' x 2''" inside a 27 x 20 x 6 inch bed with a 20 x 13 inch sleeping area (Amazon listing B0734Y6KQS, read 3 September 2026). Most small-dog beds under $40 are fibre-fill and print nothing

Cons

  • The bolster runs the full circle — "surround a whole circle" in the listing's words — so a dog steps over roughly six inches of padded wall to get in and out. For a toy breed with luxating patellas that is the wrong geometry; an open-front bed or a bed she does not have to climb is better for that dog
  • One independent review reports it reads as too firm for lighter dogs, naming a 13-pound dog that did not leave an indentation (dogbed360.com, read 3 September 2026). That is consistent with the physics: two inches of memory foam yields to a few pounds, but not by much, and no foam yields to a toy dog the way it yields to a Labrador
  • No foam density, no indentation-force figure and no warranty are published on the listing or anywhere else we could find on 3 September 2026. The bed is sold under the JOYELF brand but the manufacturer field reads "Starstoy", and there is no maker website to check either claim against
  • The listing describes the foam as "using flame retardant material" with no certification named — no CertiPUR-US, no standard, no chemistry. Treat that as an unverified claim rather than a feature
  • The bed's own care copy says "Do not immerse in water for long time & tumble dry, Line dry better" — the washable cover is air-dry in practice, which matters for a dog with nightly accidents. The same review notes a crinkle from the waterproof liner underfoot and an initial off-gassing smell
  • The sleeping area is 20 x 13 inches, not the 27 x 20 on the box — the ring bolster takes seven inches off each axis. Measure your dog stretched out on her side and size against 20 x 13, not the box

We card the JOYELF because it is the only bed in the table that prints its foam slab's dimensions and thickness, seals the foam behind a liner, and costs under $40 — and because the thing it is bad at is stated plainly on its own page. It reads as too firm for light dogs, one reviewer's 13-pound dog left no dent, the bolster is a full six-inch ring, and there is no density, no warranty and no maker website behind the "flame retardant" claim. For a small dog with sound knees who nests, it is the honest cheap answer. For a toy dog with a luxating patella, it is the wrong shape, and our own page says so.

The ramp we reach for first when a dog has already refused one. The extra width and the raised side edges do more for acceptance than any other feature at this price, and the carpet tread solves the surface problem that stops most dogs before height is ever the issue. It is heavier than its "portable" billing suggests, and the 200 lb ceiling rules it out for giant breeds. Buy it for the hesitant dog, not for the hiking-and-rain dog. Two corrections we owe you before you click: the warranty is 30 days, not the year this page used to print, and Pet Gear now sells the same 71-inch frame with a removable washable supertraX mat instead of fixed carpet — if your dog goes out in the wet, pay the extra sixteen dollars for it.

  • Heavy — 25.2 lb on Amazon's own figure for the reflective 71-inch sibling and 27 lb for the supertraX version. The ~16 lb figure floating around the range belongs to the 16-inch-wide Travel Lite, a different ramp. Two-hand carry
  • Carpet absorbs water and stays damp — not the ramp for a dog who goes out in the rain daily. The newer supertraX variant has a removable washable mat and solves this for about $16 more
  • 200 lb rating is a real ceiling for giant breeds, and for anyone who wants to walk up alongside their dog
  • Fixed 71-inch length: there is no shortening it for a 16-inch couch, so it is a large object to store and to swing around a hallway

The ramp is carded second because the evidence points there before it points at steps, and we would rather card the cheaper thing that matches the argument. The study that compared stairs against a slope at a matched gradient, in the hind limb, filmed seven healthy hounds descending both and found that stair descent "resulted in significantly greater femorotibial flexion and tibiotarsal flexion and extension" — more knee and hock motion, not less — and its authors concluded that "ramp descent may be easier for dogs with limited motion of pelvic limb joints." The same Clinical Significance paragraph also says stair descent "may be a useful therapeutic exercise to improve ROM" — that half cuts against the product we card below, and it belongs here.[13] Hold that at its real size. Seven healthy dogs, descent only, and it measured joint angles, not forces — greater flexion is more motion through the joint, which is not the same thing as more load, and no canine study has measured load on either surface. It is also not the last word: in the front limb the comparison reverses, with eight healthy dogs showing greater range of motion ascending a ramp than the same dogs on stairs.[16] So "a ramp is gentler on every joint" is not a thing the evidence supports, and our steps versus ramp piece lays out both limbs in full. What the hind-limb finding does support is the narrow claim this article needs: for a dog whose problem is a knee, the slope asks less of that knee on the way down. That is why the ramp is the first purchase for a toy dog with a diagnosed or suspected luxating patella.

This is the one we have verified, at $89.17 with Pet Gear holding the buy box on 3 September 2026.[14] At 71 inches it turns an 18-inch sofa seat into about a 15-degree slope — that is arcsine of 18 over 71. Millard's dogs were filmed on a slope matched to their stairs' own gradient, not to 15 degrees, so we cannot tell you what a knee does at this angle; what we can say is that a continuous 15-degree descent removes the step-by-step flexion cycle entirely, and removes the jump, which is the part the epidemiology is about. Its 19.5-inch deck is wide enough that a hesitant dog walks rather than balances, and it has raised edges she can feel without looking over the side. We are not going to sell you the width as a superiority claim, because it is not one: the Solvit Deluxe we recommend elsewhere on this site for vehicle loading is 20 inches, wider still — though it costs more, both absolutely and per inch of ramp. The reason to buy this one for a living room instead is the surface and the shape — carpet tread rather than PVC, and a tri-fold that stands against a wall — not the width. Nobody has tested refusal rates against ramp width in dogs, so treat the walk-versus-balance reasoning as mechanical argument rather than a measured finding. Say the costs plainly, because they are real and they are not on the listing. It is 71 inches of ramp standing in your living room, which is the objection most people actually have to it, and it is why the steps below still exist as an answer. It weighs 25 pounds, so it is a two-hand carry, not a thing you reposition casually. Stairs work for dogs that won't approach a ramp — usually because the incline frightens them — and foam stairs work better than plastic because the step gives way under the landing instead of stopping the paw dead. Buy these if your dog is under the 100 lb rating and the room cannot spare five feet of ramp run-out. Check the height against your actual bed before you check out, and understand that the warranty covers manufacturing defects rather than the slow foam compression that is how these eventually wear out.

  • The one-year warranty explicitly excludes "wearing or materials or components which may occur after extended use." Foam compression over years — the way foam stairs actually fail — is the excluded case, not the covered one
  • The listing contradicts itself on the unit's own weight: a feature bullet says "weighing only 4 pounds" while the listing's dimension field says 8 lb. If you are buying partly because you intend to carry it room to room, that is a two-fold difference nobody has resolved
  • Amazon and Snoozer also disagree on the footprint's orientation — Amazon lists 21 in wide × 25 in deep, Snoozer's own page lists 25 in wide × 21 in deep. Measure the gap beside your bed for both shapes before ordering

The Snoozer steps are carded third, for the dog and the room the ramp does not suit: a toy dog with sound knees who simply launches off the couch, in a living room that cannot spare five feet of run. Steps remove the jump, and the jump is the load the epidemiology is describing. Our reading is that removing it matters more than which of the two you use to remove it — but that is our inference from a seven-dog kinematics study, not a measured comparison of outcomes, and no such comparison exists. This is the indoor unit we have verified, 17.5 inches tall, 21 wide, 25 deep, rated to 100 pounds, foam rather than hollow plastic, with the listing itself naming "small breeds" as the target, at $161.95 on Amazon with the maker holding the buy box on 3 September 2026 and $164.95 direct.[15]

Measure the seat before you order it, because 17.5 inches is the wrong height for a low sofa and Snoozer sells a 14-inch unit for that job; steps that overshoot the cushion make the last move a step down, which is the move you were trying to remove. The other honest limits are on the Snoozer's own page: a one-year warranty that excludes the foam compression that is how foam stairs actually fail, a listing that contradicts itself on the unit's weight, and a price that is nearly twice the ramp's and buys four of the beds above.

Who should buy nothing on this page#

  • A 2 kg dog with sound knees, a low bed she already uses, and a warm room. Add a fleece. You are done. Buying "orthopedic" for her is buying a solution to a Labrador's problem.
  • A toy dog who has started hesitating at the couch, skipping on a hind leg, or holding a back leg up for a stride and then walking on. That is a knee question before it is a bed question. Have it examined. Of the 751 incident cases in the paper above, 39% were managed medically and 13% surgically — and the remaining half received neither, which the authors read as luxation found incidentally in dogs who were not clinically affected.   • A small dog over about 20 pounds. The arithmetic changes. At 20 pounds she is above the memory foam test load and past half of the support foam one; the Casper Small's rating to 30 pounds and its named two-layer build start to be worth paying for. What to do this week#

Put your hands flat on the bed she sleeps on and press with the weight of your forearms. If it barely moves under you, it has never moved under her, and whatever it cost, the depth is not the reason she is comfortable there. Fold a fleece onto it tonight; that is the whole upgrade she can feel.

Then watch the couch, not the bed. Count how many times in an evening she jumps down from it, and watch the landing: a dog who lands square and trots off is fine; a dog who skips a beat on one hind leg is telling you about a kneecap that will be four years old at diagnosis if it is caught when the paper says it usually is, and older if it is read as stubbornness, or as age. If she lands square, put steps there this week and be done with it. If she skips, the ramp is the one to buy, for the reason set out above. If the skip is already happening, book the exam before you buy anything, because the delay is the injury, and for a toy dog it is a very quiet one.

Does a toy poodle or a 2 kg dog need an orthopedic bed?
Not in the sense the word is sold. Orthopedic foam works by deforming under the dog's weight so that bony points stop pressing on a hard surface. The foam industry's own firmness test presses a 50-square-inch foot a quarter of the way into the foam and records the pounds it took; a medium polyurethane support foam needs about 28 to 34 pounds depending on the class. A 2 kg dog weighs 4.4 pounds. She will not dent the support layer of a bed engineered for a 50 to 70 pound dog, so its depth is doing nothing for her. What she needs from a bed is a low edge, warmth, a washable cover and a soft top layer — and memory foam, at about 12 pounds on the same test, is the one foam class she can leave a mark in.
What is the biggest orthopedic risk for a toy breed, if it is not the bed?
The knee, and the movements that load it. In the largest primary-care study of patellar luxation — 210,824 dogs across 119 English practices — dogs under 10 kg had 2.8 times the odds of a diagnosis compared with 10 to 20 kg dogs in the unadjusted analysis, and the Pomeranian, Chihuahua and Yorkshire Terrier topped the breed table. Median age at diagnosis was 4 years. That is a disease of jumping down and climbing up, not of lying still, so the height of the couch and the height of the bed's wall matter more to a toy dog's joints than any foam depth.
Is a bolster bed bad for a small dog with a luxating patella?
A full-ring bolster is a wall she climbs over every time she gets in or out. On the bed we card the ring is six inches from the floor and stands about four inches above the two-inch foam slab she is standing on, so four inches is the climb that matters — 40% of the shoulder height of a toy poodle at the breed standard's 10-inch ceiling. For a dog with a known or suspected luxating patella, an open-front bed or a flat mat removes that climb, and a ramp to wherever she jumps from removes the bigger one — the study comparing the two in the hind limb found stair descent demanded significantly more knee and hock motion than a matched slope, so for a diagnosed knee the ramp comes before steps. That study measured joint angles, not forces, and in the front limb the comparison reverses. For a small dog with sound knees who nests against a wall, the bolster is the feature she uses.
Which small-dog beds actually publish their foam specs?
Few, and none publish density or firmness. The JOYELF Small prints its foam slab as 25.5 by 17.5 by 2 inches; Casper prints an inner sleep area of 19 by 12 inches for its Small, rated to 30 pounds, but its Amazon bullet says 3 inches of depth while casper.com says 3.5; the Barker Junior Small is 33 by 21 by 4 inches and 'engineered for dogs up to 50 pounds' with no lower bound stated. Not one of the four beds we checked prints a foam density or an indentation-force figure, and neither does any large-dog bed we cover except Bully Beds. All figures read 3 September 2026.
What is the cheapest thing that actually helps a tiny dog's joints?
A folded fleece blanket on the cushion she already uses, and a way up to the couch that is not a jump. The blanket answers the two things a 2 kg dog genuinely gets from a bed — warmth and a soft top layer — for nothing, because the foam under it was never going to compress for her anyway. The ramp or steps address the knee, which is where the epidemiology says her risk lives; a ramp is the better answer for a dog with a diagnosed luxating patella and the more awkward one in a small room. If you still want a bed, buy one under $40 with a real foam slab and a washable cover, and buy it for its edge, not its depth.
